HOLLISTER, Neil
Neil Hollister began teaching violin in 1998. He teaches about 50 students in group violin classes each year. Neil teachesprivately, and works through both SWMS and the Oregon Episcopal School. In addition, he has coached both adult and youth orchestra, and has performed with many orchestras and ensembles, playing classical and jazz music. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Washington (2002) and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Portland (1995).
GAYE, Suzanne
Suzanne Hutsen Gaye graduated from Denison University with a B.A. in Music. It was at the Interlochen Arts Academy that she discovered her future direction, the Suzuki method. Suzanne continued her formal training at Southern Illinois University under John Kendall, the premier Suzuki teacher and trainer in the United States. It was at SIU where Suzanne honed her teaching skills and received her Masters in Music Education.
With an extensive thirty year career in Oregon teaching violin and orchestra in the public schools, Suzanne also maintains a private violin studio. Suzanne’s teaching experience includes twenty-five years of summer institutes as well as adjudicating music competitions.
In her spare time she loves to swim, play Scottish fiddle and travel with her husband.
MATHEW, Carol
Carol Mathew has experience as a Beaverton elementary string teacher for 14 years and
elementary general music teacher for 13 years.
Since retiring as a full time music teacher with the Beaverton School District, she has taken up the role as substitue teacher.
